Many of us fail to realize that the people who are closest to us help to determine the level of our success. As a result we do not guard ourselves and open our hearts to those who rob us of our joy and even our purpose.
As I read Deuteronomy 1:6-18, I asked myself how can I apply the principles of leadership found here to the person living their everyday lives? This is the answer that came into my spirit. The people closest to us must help us in four areas.
1. They must help us with our VISION: They must help us to see beyond the moment to the fulfillment of our life’s purpose. They must be encouragers: people who help us move forward and do everything in their power to help us succeed.
2. They must be willing to SHARE THE LOAD: They must be people who from time to time are willing to assist us in what we have chosen to do. They come along side us, not to do for us, but to help us as we pursue our purpose.
3. They must help us to make RIGHT DECISIONS: They must not be yes people, but poeple who are willing to share their honest opinion in love and will speak up fearlessly when they believe we have or are making wrong decisions. They must be people whose opinion we respect and trust, even if that opinion is different from our own.
4. They must help us to STRUCTURE OUR LIVES: They must be people who will help us to put in place the necessary disciplines that will lead us to success. They help us stay focussed. They help us stay motivated. They help us to do what is needed and even more than we thought we could so that we will achieve our goals and have what the Bible calls ‘good success.’
Make sure that you have the right inner circle. Evaluate your current relationships and be willing to release those who do not fit. God will guide you by His Spirit if you ask and trust Him.
